Analysis + structure + evidence. Marks come from a clear thesis and explaining *how* the writer creates meaning.
Scoring-7 rule: Claim → Evidence → Technique → Effect → Link to thesis.
Core Skills

- Answers the prompt directly
- Guides the whole essay
Evidence
- Short quotes (embed them)

- Explain, don’t just drop quotes
Techniques
- Diction, imagery, tone
- Structure, contrast, motif
- Characterization, symbolism
Body Paragraph Template
- Topic sentence: argument for this paragraph
- Evidence: quote or precise detail
- Technique: what device is used?

Tip: Every paragraph must *prove* your thesis, not retell the story.
Common Mark Traps

- Techniques named but not explained
- Quotes not integrated into sentences
- No clear thesis (vague intro)
